4 Hidden - Must See Sites in Tuscany

Tutti vorremmo visitare posti più o meno famosi come ad esempio la tour Effel o la muraglia cinese, per poter dire, anche solo a noi stessi, l'ho visto con i miei occhi e mi si è impresso nella mente, alle volte però, almeno per me è così, vorrei vedere anche posti più sconosciuti dove però un qualcosa di particolare, bello ed imperdibile c'è.

Everyone of us would love to visit famous site like the Ellef Tower or the Great Wall and say "I've been there once! I've seen it with my eye and now is in my mind forever!". But sometimes we would like to visit and discover something spectacular which is not so famous yet. At least sometimes I feel like that.

Sono toscana, nata e cresciuta in questa fantastica regione e in alcune occasioni come gite con la scuola o con la famiglia siamo andati alla scoperta di alcune particolarità della nostra terra che non tutti conoscono e che dunque voglio condividere con voi. Fatemi sapere cosa c'è di bello e poco conosciuto nella vostra regione.

I'm from Tuscany, I was born and I grew up in this wonderful region and I had the chance with my family or with the school to go and visit places which are not so well known, but they have something particular that I would love sharing with you.

Ad una trentina di km da Baratti, proseguendo sulla costa verso nord potrete attraversare il viale di cipressi, descritti anche nella poesia di Giosuè Carducci, dove sia a destra che sinistra vedrete delle immense vigne ed arriverete ad un delizioso borghetto denominato Bolgheri. Le terre tutte intorno appartenevano (forse ancora tutt'oggi ma non trovo conferme) ai Conti Della Gherardesca; i vitigni producono vini molto pregiati appartenenti ad alcune tra le cantine più famose d'Italia quali Ornellaia e Sassicaia. Suggerisco quindi di fermarsi a degustare un buon bicchiere di vino DOC.

Not far away from Baratti, going up on the coast towards the north you could go through an amazing avenue of cypress, typical from the tuscan landscape. This route is also described in one of the most famous poem of Giosuè Carducci, on both side you'll can admire vineyards and at the end you'll arrive into the lovely burg of Bolgheri. The lands all around were owned by Counts Della Gherardesca, maybe some yards are still their. The wine produced in these vineyards are very famous and fine, here are two cellars Ornellaia and Sassicaia and you could enjoy a glass of these DOC wines in one of the little restaurants in Bolgheri.

E se vi dicessi...Merlino? Che cosa vi verrebbe in mente? A me la spada nella roccia..ebbene in Toscana, tra le colline del Chianti e non lontano da Siena si trova la chiesa sconsacrata di epoca medievale, risalente circa al 1100 d.C. Il luogo è molto suggestivo, isolato e con un lato fantasy, all'interno dell'abbazia troverete una spada conficcata nella roccia: si dice che il cavaliere Galgano, poi diventato eremita, una volta arrivato sul colle piantò la spada nella roccia per farla sembrare una croce...da portarci i bambini per farli sognare un po' ad occhi aperti!

Alle volte non occorre percorrere migliaia di chilometri per raggiungere un paesaggio che ti lasci senza fiato. Nella zona in cui vivo ce n'è uno che dovrebbe far parte del patrimonio umanitario dell'UNESCO.

Un golfo piccolo con un mare bellissimo dall'acqua limpida e calda, una spiaggia luccicante con alle spalle la storia degli Etruschi, trattasi di Baratti, luogo che fa parte della Parchi Val Di Cornia in provincia di Livorno, Toscana. Qui più di duemila anni fa gli Etruschi commerciavano il ferro ed è possibile trovarne dei residui tutt'oggi sulla spiaggia, ecco perché brilla e d'estate è quasi impossibile camminarci a piedi scalzi, nel parco sono anche presenti le tombe etrusche conservate benissimo.

È uno dei miei posti preferiti, dove vado sempre volentieri e dove ogni volta non posso fare a meno di dire che Baratti è meraviglioso e che dovrebbe veramente far parte del patrimonio UNESCO, voci di paese, infatti, dicono che un gruppo di persone ci sta lavorando per proporlo all'organizzazione.

Non è un posto conosciutissimo, ma se siete nei paraggi non potete assolutamente perdervelo e vedrete che vi rimarrà impresso nella mente, soprattutto se osserverete il golfo da Populonia, villaggio con tanto di torre d'avvistamento, in cima al promontorio...e poi fare un tuffo nella storia degli Etruschi, una civiltà della quale si sa pochissimo ma molto affascinante, non ha mai fatto male a nessuno se non allargare gli orizzonti!

Sometimes you don't need to travel thousands of km to reach a breathless landscape, where I live there is one place that should be part of the human heritage of UNESCO.

A little gulf with an amazing, warm and clear sea, a sparkly beach and behind that you'll find Etruscans history...I'm talking about Baratti which is part of Parchi della Val di Cornia in Tuscany, province of Livorno. More then 2000 years ago here, Etruscans trated iron and still nowadays it is possible to find some residuals on the beach, that's why the sand is sparkly and during the summer it's almost impossible to walk on it barefoot; also in the park there are still Etruscan tombs that can be visited and they are well-preserved.

It is one of my favorite place ever, I go very often there and every time I can't hold back myself to say that Baratti is wonderful and should be part of UNESCO, I've been told that a little group of people are working on it to suggest Baratti to enter in the human heritage, that would be well deserved it!

So, Baratti it isn't so famous, but if you are around this area you must go there, you won't be disappointed and you'll see that this place will be bare in your mind, especially if you'll observe it from the top in Populonia, a little village with an observing tower in the top of the hill. Moreover, diving into the Etruscan history, a civilization not so well know to us but absolutely fascinating, won't hurt anyone right?!
